Step Aside, Phone: Week 1
First week's update on my trying to curb my smartphone usage a little.
Proudly ruining the web since 2013.
First week's update on my trying to curb my smartphone usage a little.
A good friend of mine was recently promoted to the same level as I used to be at, and weirdly, I got jealous.
I've been making some updates to my self-hosted commenting system and I think it might be ready for release to the public soon.
I heard this quote recently and thought it was really clever. Humans crave stimulation, just like hamsters on a wheel.
Just a bit a fun, but here's some silly things that really irk me...
I'm uncomfortable with my screen time, and I just saw a post from Manu about reducing screen time. I'm jumping on the bandwagon.
Just a quick post to mention that I've now migrated this site to Pure Blog. Hopefully everything works...
Confession: I was in my early 30s before I realised it was "cold calling" or "cold emailing" instead of "code calling/emailing".
You know, because a piece of code automated the process. 🤣
I'd like to introduce you to my latest project, a simple blogging platform I've dubbed, Pure Blog.
Yesterday was new bike day. I love new bike day! 🏍️

I've been thinking about how this site may be able to live on after I'm gone. Maybe it could become a family heirloom?
FFS. Do I need to find a new email client as well as a browser now too?
🤦🏼♂️ #Thunderbird #Mozilla

Couple frustrations that I need to work through with #Vivaldi:
When I switch Gnome (Ubuntu) to dark mode in the evening, Vivaldi doesn't switch to a dark theme. Firefox does, so I'd assume this is a Vivaldi issue. 🤷🏻♂️
Some settings aren't synced between devices. Such as search engine choice, what the address bar displays when typing etc. This should be a one off thing as I get setup, but it's frustrating none the less, and things I'll need to re-do every time I get a new device.
I read this post about #Vivaldi business model, quickly realised they're the good guys, switched, and donated. There's some wonkiness compared to #Firefox, but I'll make it work.
My wife recently asked me at what point in my life was I the happiest. The answer surprised her.
I'm seeing a growing number of personal blogs that don't use upper case letters and for some reason it really irks me.
I just had the #LiquidGlass update forced upon my corporate iPhone and it's every bit as shit as everyone says. It's awful!
Sal talks about how Linux is going through somewhat of a revival at the moment, as well as some of his own thoughts on the whole Mac vs Windows vs Linux debacle, and I wanted to add some of my own thoughts.
TF is this, #Synology? Always "fun" when a random app is added to my device without my knowledge.

In a web dominated by feeds and algorithms, Joan makes a strong case for blogging as a way to reclaim depth, ownership, and real thinking.
