The Case for Blogging in the Ruins
In a web dominated by feeds and algorithms, Joan makes a strong case for blogging as a way to reclaim depth, ownership, and real thinking.
Proudly ruining the web since 2013.

Two days ago I published a simple survey asking how you read the content I put out on this site. Here's the results of that survey.
I've yearned for a Blackberry form-factor for years, and now Clicks have made that wish come true. I had to pre-order one!
I'm trying to get an idea on how people consume the waffle I put out, it should only take 5 seconds to respond, and I'd be very grateful.
Day 4 of having Flu. While having skin that's sore to the touch is just a barrel of laughs, the best part of the whole thing is:
Jacket on: Surface of the sun
Jacket off: Naked Eskimo
I'm glad to see the back of 2025, so let's focus on 2026.
Was thinking about doing one of those year in review posts, but 2025 has been the worst year of my life, and I really don't want to put everyone on a downer. I'll save you all from that.
You know what's really shit? Having the flu while you're on vacation from work...
I can't believe my wife let me do this. I knew there was a reason I married her! 🤣🏍

Had a wonderful day yesterday. We hosted my family; there were lots of laughs, and way too much food. Just wholesome family time. Some tears too, as we all desperately miss my sister, but overall a happy family Christmas.
Today we have my wife's family coming to visit. Christmas is my favourite time of year.
Watched Predator with my oldest son today. He loved it, so we're going to try and work our way through all the Predator and Alien films over the Christmas holidays.
He's a chip off the old block.
One of the most frustrating things about the #Gnome desktop is the lack of continuity with window borders. It seems like every app just does their own thing.
Not sure if that's a thing in other DEs? 🤷🏼♂️
There is no better feeling than the first day of 2 weeks off work. See you in January, work laptop! 🎄
I've been using Firefox for over 20 years at this point, but after a stream of cock-ups, I'm thinking about moving on.
Ah FFS. C'mon, #Mozilla. Can you try and stop effing up #Firefox for 2 damn minutes...

I really want to love #PopOS #Cosmic but there's a bug in the file manager that prevents me from browsing my NAS via SMB. I do that all the time so it's a deal breaker for me. :-(
This just sounds horrendous, but is a perfect example of why you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. Especially a basket you don't control.
I hope he gets it sorted out.
Watched the Dungeons & Dragons film with my wife and kids.
Utter, utter dog shit. That is except for last 15 minutes or so. That was just mediocre...
💩
Been waiting for the new version of #PopOS with #Cosmic for what seems like ages. Was very tempted by the beta, but now it's fully released I'm gonna be installing it.
Always loved what the team at System76 put out with Pop.

It pisses me off an unholy amount when my kids use "Santa" instead of "Father Christmas". 🎅🏻
We. Are. Not. American.
